Day 2 - El Camino.

Starting (and maximum) elevation - 950m. Minimum elevation 500m. Cool today, about 13 degrees.

Blessed and fed, we headed out this morning at 7.50am, a little weary from yesterday's walk.

The first 22km today was on forest pathways, through the villages of Burguete, Espinal, Viskarret and Zubiri and beside the occasional farm. A bit of snow early on - on the ground, not falling on us. Beautiful purple, white and yellow wildflower at times and early blossoms made for a really pretty walk.

We stopped for a break at Viskarret around 12kms. The villages are beautiful - French/Spanish provincial farmhouses. Large stone buildings with heavy wooden doors and shutters. All really well looked after. They're quite stunning.

We lunched in Zubiri after 2km of downhill on stone paths - great massage for my sore feet. Many pilgrims choose to stay here but we pushed on to the next village - Larrasoaña - 6km away. Those 6kms had a bit of everything - road, forest path, grassland and farmland. We skirted around the large MAGNA (magnasite) plant on the edge of Zubiri. I was quite taken with the yellow lichen on the trees - once in Larrasoaña, I saw it growing over iron gates too.

Just got to Larrasoaña before the rain. The word is rain tomorrow :(

We're staying in a 'pension', a bit like a bed & breakfast. A well deserved private room after a long day.

Todays distance = 28km.

Total kms = 53km
