Up for 8:30 breakfast and to main house to meet with te group. Bus to the beach but water rough and plans spoiled. Heavy current left to right – just stay in a short while then up the a bar (Rueda) and work on journal and have some drinks under a mango tree talking to Emily. Buy two local kids sandwiches for lunch. Beach was quite crowded – lots of young folks

Back to the home stay (Jose’s) and rest a bit. Get dressed up for the Tropicana. Go to Elaine and Marie’s. Ella gives Elaine a massage and then back to Jose’s to rest up again. Back to Elaine’s for her birthday party – cake, fans, masks… all handmade, plus handmade whistles. String pull piñata too! Nice rum (15 year old from Abel for 10 CU).

Then on bus and off to Casillo del Moro – a very nice old fort. A short tour by a Spanish speaking guide – pirate museum not that great. Some wonderful views but not great lighting or care taken of the place. Urine smell in guard towers but overall a nice place.

Back together and to a converted mansion for dinner. Given choice of main course but sides set. The “butter” was actually mayonnaise! The fish we got was dry and salty… Then back on the bus and off to the Tropicana! It wasn’t very crowded but a half bottle of rum and two cokes (plus ice) and free cold cuts! Drink all the rum…

The show was quite spectacular! Real active dancers performing a celebration of Caribbean cultures. It goes on until midnight. Marie was not feeling well so we got a cab with her and Elaine and headed back to the home stay. All in all a nice evening.
