|Just wanted to make an update of sorts for 2011 in review. We had lots of fun and got busy and took on a few projects, which allow us to live the life we enjoy, so here goes.....
January was our first ski trip to Utah. We skied Park City, Snowbasin and Alta (our favorite). The trip was so wonderful because we had a cabin for a week with our two sons. Just the four of us like old times enjoying a fire and homebrews by night, exhausted from day after day of skiing.
February was spent with friends, Jim and Christy in Mammoth. We met this couple two years ago and spent time on our boats in Alaska and B.C. They were so generous to open their home to us and ski with us for days. Though we have skied for 30 years, after a just a few days with this couple we definitely became much better. We learned how to ski powder. Thanks you two!
March took us back to ski Alta in Utah as it just kept calling us. There were record snowfalls and awesome powder everywhere. Best ski season ever. On our way back to So Cal our dear friends John and Cathy met us at Paris, Las Vegas that is, where we toured Fremont Street (lot has changed since our last visit there) and various other attractions. Best attraction there was "The Body" exhibit, a roving marvel of human anatomy. Recommend it to anyone that has the opportunity.
April - September allowed us to log many miles of sailing to and from Catalina Island a few times to Santa Cruz Island (about 800 nautical miles in total). We hiked many miles on both islands, snorkeled in our cooler waters (final trip to Isthmus was in the 50's), spent a few weekends with our sons and other family members who get little chances to enjoy these lovely places and vistas. ***Big Event*** Our youngest son finished college! Happy to say we both our kids have college degrees. Not sure who was happier at graduation…
October found me turning 50. A new decade, a new time in life. I reaffirmed how blessed I am. To have a wonderful husband who is still my sweetheart, after 31 years. Hard to believe, not to mention I have been blessed with two awesome sons who both have beautiful women by their sides. At their young ages, they have both been in long relationships and are happy. For my 50th I had to travel, of course! This led to a flight to the Gulf Coast with our buddies John and Cathy. We explored the French Quarter and all else New Orleans had to offer. There were lots of food, drink, jazz, more drink and midnight beignets at Cafe Du Monde. I loved every moment! We took a rental car and headed to Natchez, Mississippi for the Fall Pilgrimage. This allowed us to see real Southern belles opening up their old plantation homes with period furnishings and sharing their family histories. We ate some real MS barbeque and headed to Vicksburg, MS. Vicksburg was a stronghold in the Civil war and a huge former battlefield there is now a national park with many monuments. We had a tour guide in our car all afternoon giving us details of the tragic battle fought there. Next we were off to kick around the Gulf in Biloxi, MS. The guys ordered dozen after dozen of oysters fresh off the boats. I am not a fan but they were edible, others were heard saying ,”these are the best ever”. If this weren't enough of a trip, we jumped on a cruise ship for a week. Our ship headed south in the Caribbean to Costa Maya, Roatan (Honduras), Belize and Cozumel. Did I mention my friend Cathy was lucky enough to win $2500.00 TWICE in the ship’s casino. Yep, a quarter slot machine. Unbelievable!
After all this fun we decided to take on a two month project which was difficult but rewarding. It was a win-win for all involved. The results are outstanding and the property will shine for years to come.
November we worked and worked....
December we worked.....then just as we were about to have some free time to enjoy we decided to buy an older motorhome and travel the U.S. in the coming year. Our new roving home is named "Atilla the Plum". Why? Cause she is a hon (hopefully not Hun) and the outside coloring is plum so we will be traveling by land, visiting family and friends from time to time and sailing in California when we can.
This coming year will no doubt bring lots of change and surprises but isn't that what life is about? May you and yours never forget to count your blessings and have a very wonderful new year. Cheers!!
