Ancient Town at night.

Lanterns hanging in Ancient Town.

One of many stalls selling silk lanterns.

Unable to book ourselves onto a sleeper bus, we get an extra night in Hoi An. We are thrilled...we love it here. We spend our first day riding bikes along the river to the beach. Passing by green paddy fields and brightly painted fishing boats. In spite of the grey clouds, there is still so much colour here. As we approach the beach, it starts to rain. The wind whips in off the sea. It's not exactly paradise but I love it just the same.

We make sure to appreciate the extra day, taking the time to relax and enjoy staying in one place for a while. So we treat ourselves to a massage and a facial, we find a small, vegan restaurant for dinner and we spend an evening walking through Ancient Town. At night, the streets are lit up with hundreds of handcrafted lanterns. Paper lanterns can be lowered from the bridge into the river below. Watching them float across the water is mesmerising. The beauty of that moment will stay with me always.
