Kerry-Ann and Shaylyn's World Adventure travel blog

Today we headed off to Hervey bay so that we could go to fraser Island. We headed out really early around 7.30am as we were all awake. The fun car were anyway! So we headed off along Bruce minding our own business when we started hearing a flapping noise which was slightly disturbing! we stopped the car and had a look but we could not see anything, we thought it might be the mud guard on the tyre but it all seemed ok, so we carried on slowly but the noise got worse. We were about 80km from the next town so we decided it was best to go slow and carry on than sit in the middle of no where an wait to be rescued! (our phones didnt work, no signal!)

So we carry on to Mackay and pull into the first garage we see, it is about 9am by this time. We got out the car and start chatting to the mechanic who had one look at the tyre and told us we were lucky it hadnt blown! The tread was hanging off about 6 to 7 inches. When we had stopped it was on the underside of the wheel so we didnt see it! The guy was lovely he said it was a faulty tyre and we shouldnt pay for it as it was a rental and tyre and must have been re-tread badly! We phoned the car hire company and they were fine and even had an account with the repair company which was a stroke of luck! we went and had brekkie and they fixed the tyre for us and we didnt have to fork out for it they were so quick it was waiting for us by the time we had eaten!

So we headed on our way hardly waylaid at all as we had planned to stop for brekkie anyway! we carried on and got to rockhampton where we were thinking of spending the night as Airlie Beach to Hervet Bay is really far, about 12 hours driving. We discovered there was a Kmart so we went for a little look round to see if we could get any bargins and stopped for lunch as well. We decided to carry on as we still had a way to go and we thought if we drove for longer then we could have more beach time in Hervey Bay. We stopped for the night around sixish as we were warned that after dusk the kangeroos come out and they tend to have no regard for the road or cars. We had seen many dead one along the highway already and we didnt want to have any more drama with the car. Kezza and tony were ahead of us and they carried onto Bundaberg but we stayed in a little cute static caravan on Bruce the highway . We discovered that there was an abundance of frogs in the area and they liked to come up through the toliet, they we very noisey!
