DAY 10 REST DAY IN GOLDEN
Small town of 3000 - As mentioned on day 9 - it is a rafting center in summer and a ski center for Kicking Horse Mountain in the winter.
it is best for extreme skiing - lots of double & triple black runs.
Easy day - resting - everyone at the laundromat, bike shop repairs , extra supplies, etc.
Nice campsite , next to river , train tracks, of course, and Kicking Horse Mountain in the back ground
Tomorrow another rough day as we enter Banff National Park and start towards another mountain pass .
On rest days we are on our own for meals - anything still in the fridge is available (leftovers and fresh fruit & vegetables) - fine for breakfast & lunch - but we headed into town, and the pub, for supper.
There was a heavy thunderstorm in the mountains to the west - after it passed we could see two small forest fires high in the mountains that were started by the lighting..
A few people went to the movie tonight. You know you are in Golden (population 3000) when at the movie theatre the main feature starts & the lights go out immediately without dimming , future trailers, commercials or anything. Also the movie was advertised outside on a piece of white bristle board with hand written lettering .
It is still light in camp till after 11 . Picture at 10 pm from camp
Then the sun is up by 4 am
