The Islands of Koh Mak & Koh Chang (Gulf of Thailand): 20-27th January 2011
These are two wonderful islands in the Gulf of Thailand, both of which we have previously visited. We headed straight to Koh Chang on arrival at Bangkok airport where we caught a shuttle bus to the public bus terminal and, after a marathon flight of 14 hours with a transit in Abu Dhabi, caught a public bus down to the port (about 4.5 hours) to catch the 40 minute ferry to Koh Chang.
We met up with Laz and Dave who were already ensconced in their plush hotel. We successfully found a cheapie room in a nearby hotel (about £14 per night). Perfectly decent apart from the 3D painting of chihuahua puppies above our bed. We spent a couple of nights here before heading off to the south of the island and another ferry to the island of Koh Mak.
We returned to the Lazy Day resort where we'd stayed before with Liz & Baz and enjoyed three nights here before moving to another, even nicer beachside resort called Holiday Resort
Great food, lounging about in hammocks, a snorkel day out with Laz (Dave had by then returned to London) and lots of backgammon.
Very pleased to say that Koh Mak hasn't changed much at all since our last visit in 2008. Still the same restful coconut plantations, white sandy beaches and small scale development.
