Larry & Maureen's Travel Adventures travel blog

The view from our room at the Grand Okanagan Resort.

Our very good friends the Allisons from Peachland.

Our travels have officially begun! There have been a few changes. Maureen actually finished work on June 15 and a very capable person was hired to take her place. Larry has handed his day to day operations over to his very capable management staff but, in true workaholic fashion, is never very far from what's going on.

The boys moved out on July 5. It was uneventful - they sure have a lot of stuff! Together, they are renting a small, two-bedroom house in White Rock (yes, for real). They get to drink good water, purchase a parking pass and vote for White Rock Council! Their landlord lives right next door so can keep an eye on them.

Our trip began on Monday, July 8. We made our first trip up the Coquihalla with no problem. We're still getting used to everything. It took much longer than Larry's usual trips up the Coq take. We had left at 9 a.m. and arrived at our campsite in Kelowna at 3 p.m. It's very hot. I have brought my "garden" with me - a hanging basket that will last only until we head south in October. Then I'll buy one down there that will last until we come back into Canada, and so on.

On July 12 and 13, Larry participated in the annual Motorola golf tournament. It had been held the last two years in Vernon but is back in Kelowna this year. We are staying at the Grand Okanagan for the two nights, while our "home" is parked on site in bus parking. A wonderful dinner at Fresco was provided by Motorola as well as a $100 spa credit for me. On July 14, we headed to Peachland to visit some longtime, dear friends for a couple of days. Then we were off to Oliver for two days. We visited a few wineries and enjoyed the last of the hot weather. The day we left (Wednesday) it was thundering and pouring rain. We drove through rain the whole way to South Surrey. We are now booked into the Border RV Park until July 30. Then we will head to the Kootenays.

Our learning process will continue I'm sure - for example, we've learned that you can't perk coffee and make toast at the same time (we now know where all the fuses are located).
