Driving Across America 2019 travel blog

Our ride

Outside the Barstow museum

Here is my first post to this Blog. Let’s see how I do.

We knew we had to be and wanted to be flexible on this trek. No, I didn’t misspell that, I just wanted to make a play on words. We are driving our Roadtrek across the USA.

Anyway, the first couple of days required us to make changes to our loose plans. We had originally planned to leave on Saturday and spend Easter with Bernadette,Cooper and the grandkids. Well Jackson wasn’t feeling well, so we decided to start a day later.

It worked out because we were able to go to the Easter Service at our regular church. Jack was feeling much better so we traveled to Bernadette’s home and had a nice visit.

The next day we took off to Barstow, CA. We had intended to see the Desert Museum in Barstow, but it is closed on Sundays and Mondays. We were there on Monday.

Luckily, we noticed another museum on the same street. I don’t even remember the name of the museum. But it featured an eccentric array of anything that has an attachment to Barstow. There were artifacts donated from people that lived or worked in Barstow. Minerals and rocks that are found in and around Barstow. As well as minerals and rocks that are similar from anywhere in California. Since Barstow is on Highway 66, this museum had books and pictures related to Route 66.

The original plan was to spend the night at an RV place just outside of Barstow, in the town of Dagget. You know how the pictures placed on the internet makes a place look its best? Well let’s just say the RV park did not live up to the pictures. We made the decision to keep going and get to our next destination, Kingman, AZ.

It was a long drive but a beautiful drive. The Mohave desert this time of year is beautiful. We took a lot of pictures as we drove. I didn’t want to stop for each possible photo otherwise it would have made the drive quite a bit longer. I’ll have to work at adding some of those pictures because they are on Julie’s phone. I might have to post them a little later.

We made it to Kingman, AZ without any further issues. Now, I have to see if I can navigate this Blog posting correctly.
