Vera's Peru Adventure 2013

Vera's 2013 Peru Adventure travel blog
Welcome to my latest trip journal!

I have been passionate about travelling for a very long time and, for most of the past 12 years, I have managed to head off on an adventure at least once a year.

This year, 2013, I'm setting myself a real challenge. This year I am heading to Peru in order to work and live in the country I fell in love with back in 2000. At that time I was taking a break from a very nasty divorce, so I wasn't sure if it was about me loving Peru for Peru, or if it was about not having to be at home dealing with a mess. So, I went back in 2007. There was no mess at home that I needed to escape, and by the end of that trip, I felt even stronger about wanting to spend more time in Peru. So, then I knew. It was Peru because of Peru, not because of a need to escape.

I went back again in 2010 and decided to stay put in one place for a month, rather than travelling around the country. I did some volunteer work with a terrific organisation called Peru's Challenge, based in Cusco. But at the end of the month, it was still not enough. I knew I'd have to go back again and really immerse myself.

So, a couple years later I have finally organised myself and I'll be heading back there for 9 months. My hope is to be based in Cusco and teach English. But as we all know, there are no guarantees in life, so I'm going to be flexible and see what happens. If the teaching jobs are elsewhere, then that's where I'll go.

This latest blog will be about me, the absolute control-freak, going off on an adventure where I have nothing lined up; no job, no place to live, no-one I know...

Should be interesting, right?
